It has been reported that 3 vessels have been detained by Nigerian authorities for
having security guards on board whilst in Nigerian international waters. MTISC GoG has
advised that any vessels transiting or going to any Nigerian port are advised not to have
any form of security guards (armed/unarmed) on board. UPDATE: It has been
confirmed on February 9, 2015 by Captain Warredi Enisuoh Director Shipping
Department (NIMASA) that all activities in the secure anchorage area (SAA) by private
security firms are illegal and engagement of foreign arm security on board vessels are
unacceptable, vessels involve in such act will be arrested.
Therefore, companies or vessels likely to be operating in the area are advised to contact
Clearwater regarding any security solutions.
