0065-15 ALERT

A Master of a vessel has reported to UKMTO of a suspicious approach while
underway in the Bab el Mandeb. In conditions of reduced visibility to 2nm, the
Master reported that the two white skiffs had 5 persons on board in each skiff,
they were wearing yellow raincoats. They approached on the port side at 300
metres. The skiffs came towards the vessel at speed, which is when the
embarked Armed Security Team fired five warning shots. The skiffs
immediately turned away into the mist but then reappeared on the starboard
side at a distance of 2nm, 30 minutes later. Both skiffs then moved to the front
of the vessel and continued outbound from the vessel. There was a possible
sighting of ladders on one skiff but unable to confirm due to poor visibility.
The vessel is now safe.
